lyrics

Sunlight glowing Golden on the fields of Bohadeen
Crystals in the Harbour shimmer silver in the sea
A father in the warehouse shifting crates, breaking skin
His eyes set on the future of his young girl Ann-Marie

Spring blew past his windows and the summer settled in
The dog she birthed a litter, and the neighbours took some in
Time had moved so quickly he’d forgot how fast they age
A boy proposed to Ann-Marie and took his girl away

She moved away to London, he had cousins in the docks
She’d live above a tailor’s and sell peanuts on the clock
Fall would last forever, no more meadows, no more green
But he knew he’d have to let go get lost among the weeds

Winter came on heavy, the world was white with fear
The coldest in an age, most the puppies disappeared
Fever took her father, the work became too much
‘fore the daffodils had blossomed he had given up the ghost

Nothing quite as sombre as a funeral in Spring
She’d ferried from the city, she was back to Bohadeen
Sunlight glowing golden on the grass above his grave
Sailing home for closer she would have to try again
