I spent Christmas living at home
Where its cold but too coastal to snow
Where nobody ever stays past January third
The town is full of yellow lights
Fogged up windows and chimney fires
Every building painted blue and red
A pile of jackets in the door on the left
I saw someone I could never forget
A ghost from some old film that I'd lived
Wrapped up in turquoise coats
She said "it's been so long
I'm glad you're well
What brings you home
To this old hell?"
I guess it's just the time of year
Things are slowing down and I need the air
See old friends, and how they've been
Someone told me you moved out of Berlin
Did you find what you were looking for?
I know it's tough to make it out of this hole
But if anyone could, it's true, it would be you
I was going for a swim
When everything came back to me
Under water every inch of skin
Felt the touch of memory
Now I finally know
Where it all began
I might try it on
If I can
Turquoise coats and a chimney fire
Hotel bars till some early hour
Catching up a falling leaf
A life changing colour as she
Falls into me

Willow trees sewn silver fabric on the rug
Thrown on a couch where the leather is torn
She put tea on a nightstand, sat on the floor
It was Christmas at the weekend, we should've been home
I had so many questions, but I bit my tongue
It's not fair to destroy time that's been shared
The window was open, radio played
"And so this is Christmas" and so it is
I don't care about the weather
Like you want me to
It's just another cold December
With a new year fading in
There's a beautiful game
She taught me to play
Talking 'bout tomorrow
Like its a lifetime away
We'd only be so lucky
if tonight would never end
Always the week before Christmas
Always convinced we're just friends
I don't care about the weather
Like I care about you
It could rain all day tomorrow
And it wouldn't spoil the mood
We stared into a silence,
Blinked slower every hour
Next I knew it was tomorrow
The sun was barely there
It had snowed while we were sleeping
The street was still and white
Ice had froze the window
The cold keeping us down
I don't care about the weather
But it suits you so well
All the blankets and the pillows
You've wrap yourself in

to be different

To the seaside
Sand in our shoes
The dead of midnight
To look at the moon
It's almost full tonight
On new years day
Worth the drive out
Though its said that it might rain
Wind in the leaves
Salt in our hair
Cold on the breeze
Biting our skin
I wanna be a tree She said
Bark for skin
Then maybe ill Get through
A day like this
We sat till two
We sat till three
The clouds won't move
So nor do we
The day came up around us
Morning filled the air
The tide was drawing towards us
I said we'd best high tail
From time to time I'd close my eyes
And relive what you said
Both your eyes like northern stars
Wishing at the sun
To be different
To be beautiful

long drive

You turned off the headlights
And drove us in the dark
Till something in the rear-view
Took us by surprise
Pulled in by the train tracks
Sat up on the grass
We'd leave when the rain came
Then sat there all night
You broke the silence
had something to say
You told me you loved me
But not the same way
What should I say
I might just lie
